Welcome to Anson House at Star Cottage
Self Catering Holiday Cottage, Nr. Malton
High quality self catering holiday accommodation (sleeps 4+).
Anson House has received the accolade of a Gold Award from Visit Britain.
Anson
House is a luxurious, newly built self-catering cottage on the
outskirts of Malton (only 1 mile from both the railway and bus
stations) yet completely surrounded by fields. It is situated on
the horseracing yard/throughbred Stud of Star Cottage and has been finished to a
very high standard with the 27 hole golf course 150 yards (about
a 7 iron) away. There is always something in a name and Anson
House is named after Avro Anson - bred, raised and raced from
Star Cottage. Avro completed two Grand Nationals, finished first
in the Stayers Hurdles at Cheltenham and won a multitude of
flat, hurdle and chase races for us and is still here in
honorable retirement.
Accommodation - the cottage is double glazed throughout and open
all year with full oil-fired central heating and a log burning
fire. There are two spacious en-suite bedrooms both with a
choice of either twin or double beds. Bedroom 1 has
bath/shower/toilet and bedroom 2 a shower/toilet. In the lounge
there are two large comfy sofas which can also convert to sofa
beds. There is also shower/toilet facilities on
the ground floor. It has a
fully fitted kitchen/dining room with dishwasher, auto
washer/dryer, microwave, electric oven, hob, fridge/freezer and
ironing facilities. Sky TV - (inc. Sports). is provided in all
bedrooms/lounge complete with radio, VCR and DVD. All bed linen
(duvets), towels and tea towels are provided. Both bedrooms and
the garden look
onto the paddocks occupied by mares and foals. This stud has
bred more than 200 winners including some top class ones - can
you spot another? Ample private parking and drying facilities
are provided but regrettably NO SMOKING or PETS.
Although the hamlet of Star Cottage is within walking distance of the bustling Market town of Malton, only a mile away, with all its shops, supermarkets, banks, cinema, restaurants and pubs etc. yet here peace reigns and even wild deer can sometimes be seen grazing in the paddocks. Star Cottage is like a nature reserve as our own 40 acres of paddocks adjoin the 27 hole Malton & Norton Golf Club - we even have our own black pheasant (Albert) who had 2 wives this year!!! We are also under the flight path between 2 local lakes for duck and geese and a collection point for migrating birds - although many swifts, house martins and swallows return to reside here each summer.
You will often hear the owls but rarely see the badgers, foxes, and hedgehogs. Gallop and stable visits can be arranged for guests by request and sometimes even visits to a racecourse.
